On Saturday, 30 July we’re once again heading to the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. With over 10,000 aircraft and 500,000 people every year, AirVenture—or just Oshkosh—is always an amazing aviation event. This year at Oshkosh, much of the focus is on the celebration of Boeing’s 100th anniversary. As part of that celebration, Cathay Pacific is bringing one of their Boeing 747-8F freighters and we have something very special planned.
Step Inside Hong Kong Trader
We’ll have two live video tours of Cathay Pacific’s Boeing 747-8F B-LJA, better known as ‘Hong Kong Trader’. Our first tour will take place at 10:30am local time (15:30 UTC, 23:30 HKT) on Facebook Live. The second tour will be at 11:30am local time (16:30 UTC, 00:30 HKT) on Periscope/Twitter. Both tours will take viewers inside the cargo areas and flight deck of the aircraft.
Leading both tours will be Captain Mark Hoey, a veteran pilot and Cathay Pacific’s General Manager-Operations. Also on hand will be Mark Sutch who oversees Cathay’s cargo operations. They’ll take us through the aircraft and be able to answer any questions you may have. If you have specific questions about the 747-8F, let us know via Twitter or Facebook prior to Saturday and we’ll ask Captain Hoey to answer them during our tours.
Other Attractions at Oshkosh
In addition to our tours of Hong Kong Trader, we’ll be visiting the rest of Oshkosh throughout the day. We’ll be visiting our friends at Gogo, GE Aviation, and NASA, as well as viewing the afternoon and evening airshows. Highlights of the afternoon airshow include the Skytypers, Sean D. Tucker in the Team Oracle bi-plane, Vicky Benzing and her Stearman, and the Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds.

The highlight of the evening airshow will certainly be the Martin JRM-3 Mars, the world’s largest flying boat water bomber.
In addition to our tours of Hong Kong Trader, we’ll have live videos throughout the day. If you’re going to be at Oshkosh on Saturday, send us a tweet or Facebook message, we’d love to meet you. We hope you’ll join us for what is going to be an amazing day.
